Murphy's Blu Boy xx ~ Shovhog xx ~ Zabeel xx
SHOW BABY’S pedigree is saturated with the best thoroughbred foundation sires known in the world today for producing international quality sport horses for the Olympic disciplines.
In her first 12 generations, she has dozens of appearances of the three thoroughbred giants with immeasurable critical mass and genetic power; Blenheim (Blandford/Charles O’Malley), Mumtaz Mahal (The Tetrarch/Sundridge) and Nearco (Pharos/Havresac II).
In addition, she has numerous repeats of Nasrullah (Nearco/Blenheim), Man O’War (Fair Play/Rock Sand), Princequillo (Prince Rose/Papyrus) and Native Dancer (Polynesian/Discovery), which are leading thoroughbred sire lines for producing internationally successful sport horses.
The sire, Murphy’s Blu Boy (Blu Tusmani/Archregent) was a racehorse blessed with great blistering speed. He burst onto the scene in late 2002, winning his Australian debut in Ipswich against his 12 rivals by no less than 6 lengths. His rider, popular female Jockey, Amanda Ware, named Murphy’s Blue Boy as ‘the best horse’ she had ever ridden.
At his next two starts on the Gold Coast, Murphy’s Blu Boy outsped his rivals to win the GCTC Glades Magic 2YO Handicap by 5.5 lengths and the GCTC Class 1 Handicap by 6 lengths, both at 900m. He then headed to Melbourne where he blitzed the 1000m Group 3 MRC Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield by 7 lengths. He added another win to his resume at three years of age by winning the Gosford RC Lightning Handicap over 1000m.
The dam sire, Shovhog (Danehill/Luskin Star) was a devastating juvenile himself, confirmed by his outstanding 2nd place in the prestigious Group 1 STC Golden Slipper Stakes from Barrier 18.
During his racing career, Shovhog won the STC Aurora 2YO P. over 1100m, the STC Light Quality Handicap over 1200m, and the AJC Brian Crowley Stakes over 1200m. He also achieved top placings in the Group 3 Illawarra 2YO Classic over 1200m, and the Group 3 VATC Blue Diamond Prelude over 1100m.
Shovhog’s sire, Danehill (Danzig/His Majesty) became a champion sire on both sides of the Equator. He is the most successful sire of all time with 349 stakes winners and 89 Group/Grade I winners. He was the leading sire in Australia 9 times, the leading sire in Great Britain and Ireland 3 times, and the leading sire in France twice.
The dam’s dam sire, Zabeel (Sir Tristram/Nureyev), was the leading sire in Australia in 1998 and 1999, as well as the leading sire in New Zealand for 4 years from 1998 to 2001. Incredibly, his progeny across the world have recorded winnings in excess of AU$149 Million.
During his racing career, Zabeel won 7 races from 1200m to 2050m including the Group 1 Australian Guineas, the Group 2 VRC Craiglee Stakes, the Group 2 Moonee Valley Stakes, the Group 2 MVRC Alister Clark Stakes, the VRC Debonair Stakes, the Van Winkle Handicap, and the Marabou Handicap. Other top placings were achieved in the Group 3 VATC Autumn Classic, the Group 1 STC Rosehill Guineas, the Group 1 VATC Underwood Stakes, the Group 2 STC Canterbury Stakes, the VATC Kambrook Quality Stakes and the Group 1 VATC Caulfield Guineas.
After retiring to stud in 1991, Zabeel sired 153 individual stakes winners of 350 stakes races. He has also sired Australian champions Octagonal and Might And Power, who won 17 Group One races between them, including the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, two Cox Plates, three runnings of the Mercedes Classic and the Sydney three-year-old triple crown.
For offspring from the best producing thoroughbred mares to be successful in three day eventing, major racing successes such as stakes wins by the males found in the mare’s first two generations are necessary for elite performance.
The presence of champions and speed horses are important ingredients in the pedigree, which is one of the main reasons we have chosen SHOW BABY for our Hanoverian breeding program.
At Stella Stud, we believe that by breeding high quality Hanoverian registered thoroughbred mares to Hanoverian approved sires who are themselves from elite producing families, we can produce international quality sport horses with substance and beautiful type, as well as the right amount of blood necessary to excel in the Olympic equestrian disciplines.
